Here's How Informational Meetings will be held:
At
Asbury First United Methodist Church

Hey Scoutmasters and Camping Coordinators, there is always something new every year! We want to explain all that is in store for you this summer, and we want you to be ready! If it's your first trip or tenth trip to camp you have plenty to find out about! The Leaders Guide as well as other important forms will be available here. Learn about the 4th year of Barkeater! Remember this is the first opportunity to register for 2009!
We strongly encourage all Pack Camping Coordinators and/or Cubmasters to attend. We have many exciting and important programs and topics for your review. This is where you receive your 2008 Parent Leader Guide and medical forms. Come meet the Camp & Program Directors! All your questions can be answered here. Coordinators are responsible for collecting these materials and getting them to campers, they will not be sent to individuals.
New Environmental Science Classes
(04/01/2008 06:18:51)Good evening folks. Due to popular demand, we have opened a second 9 am section of Environmental Science in sessions 2-6. We hope that this will ease scheduling difficulties and help provide a better program for scouts.
As always, please feel free to contact me with your camp questions.
By Appointment Merit Badges
(03/28/2008 03:55:41)There have been several questions regarding merit badges listed as "by appointment." Here's how those work:
"By appointment" means that there is not a scheduled class time for the badge. Usually these are badges that are less popular (Insect Study for example), rely primarily on prerequisites (backpacking for example), or are better taught in small groups (fishing for example).
The procedure for taking these badges is to go see the area staff at camp and make an appointment to come in a small group and work with a counselor. Sometimes those appointments can be scheduled during merit badge time, other times they have to be scheduled during open program time.
Because it's done this way, there's no opportunity for pre-camp sign-up, but there's also no cut-off number either.
Steve.
Mt. Fox Registration.
(03/15/2008 04:46:24)Sign-up for Mt. Fox will take place with the May payment/roster submission. On the roster, there is a box to check for those who will be participating in Mt. Fox. The $75 Mt. Fox fee will also be paid at that time.
We will accept all youth (14 and above) who sign-up and pay on or before the deadline in May.
My apologies for any confusion. As always, let me know if there's anything I can do.

Merit Badge Schedule and Badgetracker Update
(02/01/2008 01:30:00)MASSAWEPIE SCOUT CAMPS
TO: 2008 MASSAWEPIE TROOPS
FROM: STEVE WEISENREDER, CAMP DIRECTOR
SUBJECT: MERIT BADGE SCHEDULE
DATE: 1/30/2008
Enclosed is the 2008 Merit Badge Schedule and prerequisites. Here are a few highlights:
We have listed a recommended age and rank for many of the merit badges. This is a recommendation. Badgetracker will not reject a registrant who does not meet the age/rank recommendation; that decision will be left to the troop. Please take these recommendations under consideration. If a Scout takes a badge that is too difficult for him, he may not have a pleasant experience. Age recommendations will be enforced as requirements for Rifle, Shotgun, Mt. Fox, COPE, and BSA Lifeguard.
There is enough flexibility built into the schedule this year that we will be able to open up additional sessions of classes that fill up quickly. We can’t do that in every area for equipment and supervision reasons, but there are several areas where we have that ability. Please keep an eye open for notes about new class sessions.
Archaeology Merit Badge is back. To allow for sufficient time to cover class material and to conduct the mock dig, the class will run from 9am to noon daily.
We will be making adjustments to Rifle Shooting to make certain there is enough shooting time for most Scouts to complete the badge within the scheduled class time. Scouts who have little shooting experience or who require extra help may still need to spend some time at the range during open program. All non-shooting requirements will be met within the class time as well.
COPE, Archaeology, and Mt. Fox have minimum class sizes. In the event that we do not meet the minimum, we will work with the Scouts affected to see that they get into other activities.
There are some badges for which completion is weather dependent. We’ll do our best to get everybody through the badges, but we have little control over the weather.
We plan to open Badgetracker for sign-ups on Saturday March 15th. We will provide more exact information as the date draws near. Your sign-up number will be based on the amount of paid youth that you had as of the March 1st payment. All adult sign-ups for activities like BSA Lifeguard will be done at camp. In case you’ve never visited the site, the web address is: http://massawepie.badgetracker.com/. Over the next few weeks we will make certain that each troop has a valid username and password.
I look forward to working with all of you this summer. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if there is any thing that I can do for you. I have a new phone number: 585-241-8547. My email is still s.weisenreder@oteteiana.org.
Sincerely,
Steve Weisenreder
Camp Director
